About Curtis
I thoroughly enjoy connecting with people both on and off the stage. It’s an incredible experience when I zone out on stage and when I beam back down to realize the audience has enjoyed the same Journey that I just took.
“My Sole intent, when I play, is for my voice to resonate to the core of your soul. I want the music to penetrate your body, your mind, and your spirit. I want my music to be a sacred blessing and for you on some level to come away whole”.
I've enjoyed being blessed with the opportunity to have opened and or shared the stage with such names like:
Chieli Minucci/Special EFX* Steve Cole * Cindy Bradley * Matt Marshak*Elan Trotman*Will donato * Dave Valentine * Blue Magic * Ray Goodman and Brown * Dennis Edwards/Temptation Review and the * Stylistics* Melissa Morgan* Melba Moore* Kirk Franklyn
My influences and inspirations range from my name Sake "King Curtis", Gene Ammons. Grover Washington Jr. David Sanborn, Bob Minzter, Kenny Garrett, Kirk Whalum. However If I weren't a sax player I'd probably play bass or drums LOL!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed attending the H.S. of Performing Arts (although I missed the filming of “FAME”) LOL!. When I attended Berklee College I had the pleasure of studying and performing with , Walter Beasley, and rubbed elbows with contemporary Trail Blazers like Cyrus Chestnut, Javon Jackson, Will Calhoun, Mark Jackson and many more.
Please feel free to hear my “discography” at www.curtishaywood.com , Please also check out my favorite links where you’ll see my charity work with “Feed the Children”, “Self Help Africa” and Now most recently “Community2Community-haiti. I’ve chosen to donate proceeds from “Rain Song” off the Album to help rebuild Ethiopia and Haiti. We must put our money where the needs are. Good intensions without real tangible efforts and results are simply transits of empty air.
